Girl with Flowers

Title: Girl with Flowers
Rating: G
Genre: Thriller Shortie featuring Orlando Bloom & Elijah Wood
Summary: Orlando gets angry when Elijah doesn't turn up at the club they were going to meet.

“Girl with flowers”

Orlando looked at his watch and shivered. It was a cold night and slowly he was getting very pissed of at his friend Elijah. They were supposed to meet each other 15 minutes ago in front of the club. He pulled his scarf over his mouth and put his hands in his pockets. God damn it, Lij, you better have a good excuse for being this late.

He leaned against the wall of the club. Loud music came out of the doors every time someone went inside or came out. He sighed and looked up at the clear sky. From boredom he started to look for the stars that made the Big Dipper. Ten minutes later even the stars started to bore him and he took his mobile out of his pocket. He dialled Elijah’s number, knowing that the guy and his mobile were inseparable. It ringed once, twice, a third time…

“Hi, this is my voice mail! Who am I? I bet you want to know that, don’t you? Unfortunately I’m not going to tell you! Just leave you’re message and we’ll see what happens next!”

Wanker, Orlando thought, while he listened at the beep. “Where the hell are you? I’ve been waiting for you for half an hour or so now and it’s fucking cold here! I’m coming to your house, so if you hear this message, just fucking stay where you are, alright?”

He was really pissed of now. Not coming was one thing, but not even answering his phone? He had to admit that he was a bit worried too. The only moment Elijah didn’t answer his phone was when he was in the shower. He even answered it when he was sitting on the toilet.

Orlando stopped the first taxi and gave the driver the address of his friend. Twenty minutes later they arrived at the big house Elijah lived in when he was in L.A. He paid the driver and got out of the car. He looked at the house, which was very dark except for one light on the first floor, where Elijah’s room was. Orlando went up to the front door and pushed the doorbell. He waited a minute, probably the longest minute in his life so far, but there came no reaction. Luckily he knew where Elijah hid the spare key for his backdoor. He went to the garden and bent down next to the fourth flower basket on his right. He grabbed the key that was lying under it and walked to the backdoor. He hesitated, shouldn’t he let someone know that he was here? What if something was terribly wrong with Elijah? What if there was a burglar inside who killed Elijah? Or a crazy fan girl that was raping his poor friend at this very moment? “Don’t be ridiculous, Bloom, the little bastard has probably fallen asleep on his bed,” he muttered to himself as he put the key in the lock and turned it. He stepped into the kitchen and put on the light. The kitchen was a mess, like usual. There was no sign of burglars or crazy fan girls. He went into the living room. DVD’s and CD’s where all over the place, but this too was normal for the Elijah Wood Residence. He made his way to the hallway that was bathed in the weak light that came out of Elijah’s room on the first floor. He walked to the stairs but hesitated to go up.

“Elijah?”

No answer.

“Lij, come on! I know you’re here. And yeah, I’m mad at you, but I won’t kill you!” Orlando yelled, “That is, if you aren’t dead already…”

Orlando started to climb the stairs, while his angriness faded and the fear took over. An uneasy feeling settled in his stomach. “Don’t go any further and just call the police”, a voice inside his head advised him. “Yeah, and then the police arrives and Lij is just lying asleep on his bed,” another voice said. The second voice won. He could already hear the laughter of his friends. He had an image to protect!

He arrived at the top of the stairs and walked to Elijah’s room. He took a deep breath before he entered it. His heart was beating fast in his chest. His legs felt like they were made from plastic and felt like they would give up on him any moment. “Pull yourself together, Bloom, are you a man or a hysterical teenager?” He opened his eyes, he had closed them without really knowing it. First he didn’t see anything unusual. Elijah’s bed was hidden under a lot of clothes, but Orlando recognized that sight from his own getting-ready-to-go-clubbing rituals. His CD player was on, but the CD was finished so there didn’t come any sound out of it.

Then, suddenly, he saw Lij, or at least his feet. He was lying behind the bed. Orlando tried to swallow the lump in his throat away, but he couldn’t. “Yes, this is definitely the moment to call the police.” The voice in his head was back. “No, I first need to check if he’s alright.”
He walked towards his friend. When he saw how he was lying there he gasped. He was wearing nothing but boxershorts, his hair was still wet from the shower he must have taken, and his head was lying in a weird angle. “His neck is broken,” he thought immediately. His hand went into his pocket, looking for his mobile. He needed to call an ambulance! Suddenly he heard his friend moaning. He looked up from his phone and kneeled next to him.

“Lij, can you hear me? I’m calling an ambulance, okay! Don’t give up yet!”

“O… Ando… O” Elijah muttered.

“Yes, it’s me, Orlando! Don’t give up, mate!”

Elijah opened his eyes. Orlando was startled by the sight. His normally blue eyes were blood-red. They seemed to be telling him something. “O!” he said again.

“Go?” Was that what he was trying to tell him?

“Be calm, please,” Orlando said, not once averting is eyes from his friend. He saw how Elijah was trying to move his hand. He was obviously trying to tell him something. Maybe there was a burglar in the house? Who else could have done this to his friend? He wasn’t scared anymore though. He was just desperately hoping that his friend could be saved. Orlando had had a broken back once, but a broken neck was something completely different! He had heard that most people didn’t even survive an accident like that! Orlando dialled the numbers 911.
At the same moment he saw that Elijah’s finger was pointing at something behind Orlando. He looked up and saw the painting that was hanging there. Lij had bought it on a flea market a week ago. Orlando hadn’t known what his friend liked about it. It was just an ordinary painting of a girl who was holding a bouquet of flowers in her hand. Suddenly he noticed that the painting was changing. First he thought it was just his imagination, but then he clearly saw that the flowers had wilted and an evil smile appeared on the girls’ face. He looked back to Elijah. The look in his eyes told Orlando he was dead. He had used his last powers when he tried to warn him.

“Oh God,” he whispered.

He dropped the phone, without even answering the questions the woman on the other side was asking him and looked back to the painting. It was hypnotizing him. He got up and wanted to run away but the door closed with a big slam before he could take one step in its direction. The girl was leaning forward and her hands came out of the painting towards him. Orlando felt his heart beating in his chest and heard the blood pumping in his ears. There was no way out! He couldn’t believe he was really going to die in here! He felt her cold fingers on his neck, and saw her face right before his. Her lips were curled up in a broad smile and hate was blinking in her eyes. Her black hair lay in strands around her face.

“Nooooooo!” he screamed as he felt her hand starting to push against his neck and face. She had strong hands, too strong for a normal human being. But she wasn’t normal, nor was she human. The last thing he heard before he fell on the ground, next to Elijah, was the sound of breaking bones. Then everything became black. As Orlando’s soul slowly left the earth and everything on it, the door of Elijah’s room opened again. A weak light was shining on the corridor and the house was silent, like nothing had ever happened.
